Our second stop was Ephesus, Turkey and I was actually nervous about this stop. There has been been, mostly negative, news coming out of Turkey lately and some cruise ships were actually deterred from the area in the recent past. We were assured that we would be safe here and of course the area is very historical so in the end Dad and I decided to get off the ship. We traveled the 30km to Kusadasi to see the ancient ruins dating back to the 10th century BC.
It was fascinating and we were so glad that we took a tour because we were able to learn so much more about what we were seeing as we went.
Had to include this photo since it has become a family joke. These were the public toilets in the city of Ephesus. Private toilets were very rare and we only saw one on the entire tour. Each morning people would congregate and socialize in the toilets as they sat side by side and in a separate area where many many frogs to stifle the toilet noises. This prompted Dad to create the saying "Frogs out, logs out!" A play on our other popular family saying "Suns out, guns out!" Good one Dad!
Oh dear.
