It's hard to believe that we fell in love with this place, but we did. It is not exactly our taste and was dark and roughly finished (the floors were plywood btw) but it was so easy for us to envision what it could be with a coat of paint (or 7) and some new tile and kitchen cabinets.
The most important thing for us was the lot and the layout of the cottage. The lot was just incredible. Double lot which meant lots of privacy, south-facing, lots of light all day, gently sloping, great dock and on the busy part of the lake, which we love. The lot was perfect for us. We really wanted something with a gentle slope and they are so hard to find on Sproat. Most of the lots have a precarious descent down to the water and no yard to speak of. We are told that only about 10% of the lots here have a gentle slope such as this one. It was perfect.
Inside the cottage was a different matter...it was ALL WOOD. I know that some people would absolutely love that but it's just not us. The wood EVERYWHERE made the walls and ceilings seem like they were closing in on us and made the rooms feel very small. It was overwhelmingly wooden!
The layout however, was ideal. Three beds up and a full bath. The downstairs was unfinished but large and open to our plans. We knew that we could add another bedroom downstairs eventually and there is even a full bath downstairs too. What more would we need? At 2800 square feet, it is a sizeable place.
I guess they didn't think there was quite enough wood, so they furnished it in all wooden furniture as well:
When you look at this view it all makes sense. I can't wait to make some of the best memories ever here :)
