The entire nation was shocked and saddened to learn earlier this summer that Gord Downie, Tragically Hip's frontman has terminal brain cancer. The band announced a final tour and the first venue was right here on the Island in Victoria. Dad and I were lucky enough to snatch tickets online the day they went on sale and didn't have to pay after market prices. There was a huge stink about that.
We went down to Victoria for one night. Dad had cleverly booked us a hotel room prior to even getting us tickets (way to go Dad!).
It was a fun concert but we felt sad as well. There was a sombre mood to the crowd and at the end of the concert there wasn't a dry eye around.
Gord is still with us but we're told it won't be for long.
